      Which plug

One cable to one device. This page is the LINK USB-C plug, and it goes to a light.

LINK is Unity’s switching system, and the connector is an actual USB-C, not a proprietary interface under a USB-C name.

The plug seats at the Unity GASCAP, which is the tail cap this switch uses. The Surefire UE and DS00 do not take a USB-C lead, so a light already using one of those needs the Surefire plug version instead.

      Activation

The button is momentary. The light is on while it is held and off when it is released.

Because the button is momentary, the light returns to dark whenever the hand comes off it, and there is no way to leave it on from the rail. Constant on is a separate act at the tail cap. Some people prefer that, and choose this switch for it.

      Tail cap options

Constant on for a light is a function of the tail cap. The plug connection seats there, so a tail cap is required and this switch does not include one.

Back of the tail cap Constant on
Unity GASCAP A full-size button. The USB-C crosses the cap at ninety degrees At the tail cap

The GASCAP button is full size because the connection meets the cap from the side rather than the back, leaving the whole face to the button. That is a layout consequence, not a feature decision.

The GASCAP button controls the light only.

      Cable

4.5″ and 7″, both available with the USB-C plug. Modlite notes the 4.5″ reaches the device from the top rail in most setups.

The switch is molded to the cable and the cable to the plug, so the length is fixed at purchase.

Where this sits in the line

Switch Buttons Devices Hand positions Constant on at the rail
ModButton Lite, single lead (you are here) one one one no
ModButton Lite, dual lead one two, together one no
AXON SL one one, or two together one yes, light only
AXON two two, separately one yes, light only

      Built from two single leads:

Configuration Buttons Devices Hand positions Constant on at the rail
Two single leads two two, independent two no
Two single leads in a dual SNAP two two, independent one no

Two single leads is the configuration users most often miss: two devices under independent control, using two switches and two rail positions, or both switches in one dual SNAP mount. The dual lead covers two devices on one press. The AXON puts two devices under one hand on separate buttons, and its light button adds constant on at the rail for the light.

      Full power

Older switches were built for 3, 6 and 9 volt lights. Cells moved to 18350, 18650 and 21700, and current draw moved with them. A switch built to the older standard does not pass the draw of current head technology. Modlite puts the typical loss at 15 to 20% of output.

The ModButton Lite passes it, so the light runs at full output. It mounts to a light already owned.

      Mounting

All four mounts are alternatives to each other, not additions.

      Mount Rail
      Picatinny rail clamps Picatinny Included
Guards Picatinny Replace the clamps. Raised sides, less exposed button face
SNAP Picatinny Separate mount the switch snaps into. Toolless. Single or dual
M-LOK adapter M-LOK Frame the switch sits in, attached to the rail

      Placement

Twelve o’clock is common for a white light switch, reachable with the support hand thumb from most grips. Two and ten put it on the side of the rail, which is where a laser switch often goes once the light has taken twelve. Which side follows whether the shooter is left or right handed. Rail length and handguard diameter set what is reachable without changing grip.

Handguards vary. A Picatinny rail at twelve is close to universal. Some run Picatinny at twelve, three, six and nine. Some pair Picatinny at twelve with M-LOK on the other faces.

Two switches on one rail sit at some distance from each other. Separation helps with reaching for one and finding the other, and with catching one on gear. The guards raise the sides of the button and reduce the exposed face. A dual SNAP takes the other approach and holds both switches in one mount.

The switch mounts on either side of the rail, which changes the cable routing. Route the cable close to the rail to avoid snags and clear of barrel heat.
