Two cables leave the switch, one to a light and one to a laser. One button closes both circuits, so both devices come on together and go off together.
They cannot be separated. That follows from the wiring rather than from a design choice: there is one button and one circuit path, so there is no way to activate one device without the other.
That is the reason to buy it, and the reason not to. A single hand position covers both devices, which is what a reader running light and laser on a short rail is usually after. If either device needs to work on its own, this is the wrong switch. Two single leads give independent control from two buttons, and the AXON gives independent control from two buttons under one hand.
Both plugs are on the switch, one per lead.
The LINK USB-C plug is the light side. LINK is Unity’s switching system, and the connector is an actual USB-C, not a proprietary interface under a USB-C name. It seats at the Unity GASCAP, which is the tail cap this switch uses. The Surefire UE and DS00 do not take a USB-C lead, so a light already using one of those needs the Surefire plug version instead.
The Crane Plug is the laser side. It meets the device at ninety degrees so the cable runs along the body rather than straight out of the back, which keeps the installation compact. The name comes from the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Crane, Indiana, where the standardization work behind it started. Modlite states it fits the PEQ-15, sold commercially as the L3Harris ATPIAL, along with the B.E. Meyers MAWL and the Wilcox RAIDx. Check the port on your laser before ordering.
The button is momentary. Both devices are on while it is held and off when it is released.
Because the button is momentary, both return to off whenever the hand comes off it, and there is no way to leave either on from the rail.
For the light, constant on is a separate act at the tail cap. For the laser, constant on comes from the laser’s own controls. Most have a double tap to constant.
Constant on for the light is a function of the tail cap. The plug connection seats there, so a tail cap is required and this switch does not include one.

The GASCAP button is full size because the connection meets the cap from the side rather than the back, leaving the whole face to the button. That is a layout consequence, not a feature decision.
The GASCAP button controls the light only.
Matched pairs, 4.5″ with 4.5″ or 7″ with 7″. The two leads are the same length as each other. Modlite notes the 4.5″ reaches the device from the top rail in most setups.
The switch is molded to the cables and the cables to the plugs, so the lengths are fixed at purchase.

Two single leads is the configuration users most often miss: two devices under independent control, using two switches and two rail positions, or both switches in one dual SNAP mount. The AXON puts two devices under one hand on separate buttons, and its light button adds constant on at the rail for the light.
Older switches were built for 3, 6 and 9 volt lights. Cells moved to 18350, 18650 and 21700, and current draw moved with them. A switch built to the older standard does not pass the draw of current head technology. Modlite puts the typical loss at 15 to 20% of output.
The ModButton Lite passes it, so the light runs at full output. It mounts to a light already owned.
All four mounts are alternatives to each other, not additions.

Twelve o’clock is common for a white light switch, reachable with the support hand thumb from most grips. Two and ten put it on the side of the rail. Which side follows whether the shooter is left or right handed. Rail length and handguard diameter set what is reachable without changing grip.
Handguards vary. A Picatinny rail at twelve is close to universal. Some run Picatinny at twelve, three, six and nine. Some pair Picatinny at twelve with M-LOK on the other faces.
One switch covering both devices means one position to settle rather than two, and no separation to plan. The guards raise the sides of the button and reduce the exposed face.
The switch mounts on either side of the rail, which changes the cable routing. Both leads run from the same housing, so plan the routing for the light and the laser together. Route close to the rail to avoid snags and clear of barrel heat.
