• Can a civilian legally use body armor for personal protection?

While body armor is not sold internationally, at the time of writing, it is legal to own and wear in all 50 states of the US. However, there are certain restrictions:

• You cannot own body armor if you have been convicted of offenses involving a violent felony.
• It is illegal to ship body armor products to Connecticut (CT). However, it is legal to purchase and own armor products- albeit they can’t be shipped to any CT location. 
• Wearing body armor while committing a crime would lead to a sharp increase in penalties. 

• Which NJI armor level is just right for me?

There are different NJI levels depending on weight and level of protection offered. Level IV may seem the most suitable since it can stop high-power rifle ammo, but it isn’t easy to wear for long periods.  

If the area you patrol does not have a history of rifle-related violence, you should consider level III or lower. Conversely, if the nature of your work prepares you to go into battle, it would be a good idea to opt for the maximum protection possible. All HESCO products are light and comfortable enough to be worn for an extended period of time.
