      Standard or SYNC

The AXON SL has one button. What changes between the two options is how many devices that button activates.

Leads Devices What the button does
Standard one, to the light one activates the light
SYNC two, light and laser two activates both together

On SYNC the two devices cannot be separated. There is one button and both circuits close together, so both come on and both go off. That follows from the wiring rather than from a design choice.

If either device needs to work on its own, this is the wrong switch. The full-size AXON has two buttons and activates a light and a laser independently under one hand. Two single lead ModButton Lites do the same from two rail positions.

      Activation

The light button has two actions. Pressure alone gives momentary, with no click: the light is on while it is held. A click sets it constant on, and a second click releases it.

That is the difference between this line and the ModButton Lite, which is momentary only and cannot be left on from the rail. Here constant on is available without reaching back to the tail cap.

On SYNC, the laser follows the light on the same press. For constant on, most lasers use a double tap from their own controls, and the switch passes it through.

      Which plug

This page is the LINK USB-C plug. LINK is Unity’s switching system, and the connector is an actual USB-C, not a proprietary interface under a USB-C name.

SYNC adds a second lead ending in a Crane Plug, which meets the laser at ninety degrees so the cable runs along the body rather than straight out of the back. Modlite states the Crane Plug fits the PEQ-15, sold commercially as the L3Harris ATPIAL, along with the B.E. Meyers MAWL and the Wilcox RAIDx. Check the port on your laser before ordering.

For a light already using a Surefire tail cap, see the Surefire plug version.

      Tail cap options

The USB-C lead seats at the tail cap, and only one cap takes it.

Back of the tail cap Constant on
Unity GASCAP A full-size button. The USB-C crosses the cap at ninety degrees At the tail cap, and also at the rail

The Surefire UE and DS00 do not take a USB-C lead.

Unlike the ModButton Lite, the tail cap here is not where constant on comes from. The switch already has it. The GASCAP is the port, and its button is a second way to reach the same function.

      Cable

4.5″ and 7″. On SYNC both leads are the same length as each other.

The switch is molded to the cable and the cable to the plug, so the length is fixed at purchase.

      The ModButton and AXON switches

Switch Buttons Devices Hand positions Constant on at the rail
ModButton Lite, single lead one one one no
ModButton Lite, dual lead one two, together one no
AXON SL (you are here) one one, or two together one yes, light only
AXON two two, separately one yes, light only

      Built from two single leads:

Configuration Buttons Devices Hand positions Constant on at the rail
Two single leads two two, independent two no
Two single leads in a dual SNAP two two, independent one no

The AXON SL and the ModButton Lite dual lead cover the same ground: two devices, one button, one hand position. The difference is that the SL adds constant on at the rail for the light, and mounts hard to the rail rather than through clamps. The full-size AXON is the one that separates the two devices onto their own buttons.

      Mounting

The AXON SL hardmounts directly to an M1913 Picatinny rail. There is no clamp to remove and no separate mount to buy for a Picatinny handguard.

For an M-LOK surface, the AXON SL M-LOK mounting plate is the adapter. The ModButton guards and SNAP mounts do not fit this switch; they are ModButton parts and clamp to a different housing.

      Placement

Twelve o’clock is common for a white light switch, reachable with the support hand thumb from most grips. Two and ten put it on the side of the rail. Which side follows whether the shooter is left or right handed. Rail length and handguard diameter set what is reachable without changing grip.

The 45 degree button face is the reason to think about this differently than a flat pad. The angle sets where the thumb meets the button, so the mounting position and the angle work together rather than separately.

On SYNC, one switch covers both devices, so there is one position to settle rather than two, and both leads route from the same housing. Route close to the rail to avoid snags and clear of barrel heat.
