The body, tailcap, battery and charger are the same in both options. Only the head changes, and the two heads build different beams.
Both heads are single-mode: high output on every activation. Both run 35 minutes constant on high on the included 18350.
The OKW beam is longer and narrower. It puts more energy into a tighter shape. Professionals who favor it are usually prioritizing reach: a bright, tight core pushed out to distance to identify what is there.
The PLH beam is wider, with more spill. More spill lights more of the room, the ground, and the edges while you work, and PLH still holds a favorable center hotspot. Professionals who favor it tend to value that peripheral lighting. Which you want comes down to preference and the needs of the work.
The bright core of the beam, and what candela measures. A tighter, more intense core reaches farther. This is throw.
The light between the hotspot and the darkness. It is what lights peripheral vision: the corners of a room, a doorway you are passing, the ground underfoot. Generally, the more a beam is concentrated for reach, the less spill it carries, so a head chosen for distance tends to light less of what is around it. That balance is a large part of what separates the two shapes, and a large part of what comes down to preference and need.
Lumens measure total light out the front. Candela measures beam intensity. Read side by side they may not appear to track together, and that is the reflector doing its work. A head can produce a great deal of light and spread it wide, and a wider beam tends to have less depth. Another head can produce less light, focus it harder, and reach considerably farther. The two heads on this page show it: the PLHv3 produces more light, and the OKWv2 produces less and reaches farther.
A mount is not included, so the light can be set up for your rail and hand position. See mounts.
Modlite recommends its protected cells. Spare cells and chargers are in batteries and chargers.
The included clicky tailcap does not accept a remote switch. It is a complete control on its own. If you plan to run a remote switch, the FUEL 18350 Weapon Light Package ships with the Unity Tactical GASCAP in place of the clicky tailcap. The GASCAP accepts LINK-compatible switches such as the ModButton Lite and keeps an onboard button for momentary or constant activation. Remote switches and tailcaps, including the GASCAP on its own, are in switches and tailcaps.
Lithium CR123 cells are not supported. Modlite states that if used, they can cause excessive heat generation or potential fire or explosion.
Type III hardcoat varies from part to part, even within the same batch, and the variation is most visible on FDE. Modlite matches parts as closely as it can, but expect slight color differences between sections of the light.
